Given a makeover in 2013, the Mercado do Bom Sucesso was one of the first markets in Porto to ally history with the habits of modern consumption.
The building opened in 1952 is one of the major examples of modern architecture from the second half of the 20th century and still maintains its structural features, of which the domed roof allowing the light to stream inside is one of the highlights. Today, it's split into the fruit & veg market, gourmet food market, restaurants, offices, a hotel and also a cultural venue with regular concerts and fully booked calendar. Given its central location and the range of food options it provides - in total there are over 40 stalls selling traditional dishes, world food, snacks (some more gourmet than others) and petiscos - this is an excellent place to take a quick break for lunch or for a relaxed dinner amongst friends.
